A Congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America

Confirmation Ministries
7th Grade and Older

Goals of Confirmation Ministry

  • Help students "catch" the faith
  • Foster Christian relationships
  • Promote a personal relationship with Christ
  • Open opportunities for families to communicate their faith

Program Curriculum

The curriculum used for 7th graders is developed by Our Saviour's. The 8th graders use a program developed at Prince of Peace Lutheran and sold by Augsburg. Each 7th grade shepherd or 8th grade teacher will lead a group of approximately four students. The 7th grade curriculum is an overview of Lutheran worship and topics found in Luther's Small Catechism. Relationship building, prayer, and the Bible are important parts of the 7th grade curriculum. The 8th grade curriculum consists of Ten Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, and a unit on My Faith. The 9th grade completes the My Faith unit by meeting in small groups with a pastor. Students will also meet with a mentor and write a faith statement.

Confirmation Instructors

Because relationships are an important part of the program, class sizes are kept small. Each year many individuals are needed to make the program a success. Leaders come from many sources in the congregation. Some of the adults have students in the program. Others are young adults who feel a commitment to the youth of the congregation. Others are adults of varying ages who feel that God's call has been extended to them in this vital and important ministry of our congregation. Resource volunteers are also needed to help the program run smoothly.

Ages for Confirmation

The Our Saviour’s program is primarily designed for students in grades 7, 8, and 9. In late September, Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism service) is held for 10th graders who have completed the program. If a student older than 9th grade wishes to confirm their faith, they are encouraged to talk to the Director of Confirmation Ministries or to one of the pastors so that a course of study can be designed for them to explore their faith.
